We
have compiled the most frequently asked questions below and answered
them as thoroughly as possible. If you still have a question after
reading through the FAQs, please post it in the comments section and we
will be sure to address it.
What exactly is a design team?
Our design team is
currently a group of seven fun and creative freelance scrapbookers from
around the country who work from their homes. Using Reminisce products,
they create layouts, projects and cards as assigned by Reminisce. Being
so spread out, all team members keep in touch regularly through a group
website. The comraderie of this team is very supportive - every time
someone is published or has personal news, everyone else is quick to
post a congrats message!
What does being a design team member entail?
A
huge perk of being on the design team is seeing the newest Reminisce
products before anyone else! Every time Reminisce releases a new
collection of products, we ship samples of everything to each of our
design team members, along with an assignment as to what we need in
terms of layouts, projects and more. We provide a shipping account
number to each of our members so that it is easy to ship finished
projects back to our main office. Other member perks include a standing discount on any orders placed for personal use products, as well as a Reminisce t-shirt. (The "Design
Team 2009" shirts are in production right now!)
How are design team members paid?
Design
team members are compensated monthly. They submit an invoice at the end
of every month, listing all of the projects completed since their last
invoice. Paychecks are issued within the first ten days of the
following month. Team members work as contractors, not employees, and
are given a 1099 form at the end of the year for tax purposes. Team
members are also encouraged to orchestrate make 'n' takes at their
local scrapbook stores and submit items for publication - both of which
Reminisce provides additional compensation for.
What is the work load like?
Design
team members truly have an ideal work situation! They have the
flexibility to work from home, and during the hours that are most
convenient for them. Assignments are given on a regular basis, although
some are more extensive than others. One month we may only need a
single layout from each member, the next we may need half a dozen.
Workloads are typically heaviest right before CHA trade shows which
take place in January and July every year. This is because at CHA
shows, we release multiple collections all at once and therefore need
several project samples for each line. Because the window between new
products being manufactured and released is small, turnaround times on
assignments are typically between 1-2 weeks. To make this easier, we
give as much "heads up" before an assignment as possible, including
sending images of new products in production, so that members can start
to brainstorm their projects before they even receive the actual
supplies.

ANSWER: Work is usually sent back to the DT members within 6-9 months of receiving it in our office - we send back projects in 2-3 shipments per year. We like to keep projects around long enough to photograph/scan, and hold on during the first few months of a new line's release.
Posted by: Elizabeth Smith | September 04, 2008 at 12:26 PM
Question, do you send the work submitted back to the DT members or do you keep it? Thanks.

Wow...here it goes. I've used the heck out of your products as a 2 year member of The Memory Zone Scrapbook Store's Design Team member and I would thrilled if you would even consider my layouts, projects & cards for an entry. They can be found at www.thememoryzone.com in the photo gallery. I have over a dozen entries just from this year's projects posted there.
And thank you for your consideration.
